Remembering Samuel Beckett

...on the anniversary of his birth (April 13, 1906).

He saw clearly.

Dear Canada,

You: friendly, open, good sense of humour; a modern democracy with a realistic view of its place in the world.

Me: single 50-something male, healthy, fit, university-educated, courteous, self-sufficient; trapped south of the 49th Parallel by a cruel accident of birth -- a Canadian with a Yank's passport.

Help me immigrate, with a job offer or a marriage proposal.  We belong together!

They loaded me down with their trappings and stoned me through the carnival.  I'll sham dead now, whom they couldn't bring to life, and my monster's carapace will rot off me.
